Engadget has posted several documents purporting to show details of the Verizon Wireless PDA Phone & Smartphone lineup for the remainder of 2007. One of the documents concerns the Verizon XV6800, a Windows Mobile 6 Pro Sprint Mogul/T-Mobile Wing competitor. We don’t have all of the details on the device yet, but according to Engadget, we can expect the XV6800 sometime in November.

If you’ve been waiting for the new iPAQ 211 VGA Enterprise handheld, your wait may soon be over. According to the HP Web Store, the iPAQ 211 will begin shipping on October 17, 2007, and the unit is now available for pre-order.

According to a report from the Chinese print publication Commercial Times, Sony Ericsson has commissioned HTC to manufacture a handset to be powered by Windows Mobile. The upcoming smartphone would be available for purchase sometime in late 2008.

Amazon’s new AmazonMP3 Music Store allows users to purchase DRM-free MP3 audio files which can be used on any device, including Apple’s iPod, WMA-based players and Windows Mobile devices. With song prices beginning at $0.89, you may want to take a look at this new service, which is currently in BETA.

According to a new report at AppleInsider.com (and such reports are a dime a dozen, so take this with a grain of salt), Apple has a new PDA/UMPC in the works based on the Multi-Touch technology the company developed for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The new device would be about 150% the size of the iPhone, boast a screen with a 720×480 resolution, and run a Mac OS X Leopard variant. According to the same report, the new device would launch sometime in 2008.

EDITORIAL: In recent months, some record labels have begun to acquiesce to consumer demands, stripping DRM from some of their online offerings. This summer, EMI began selling its music DRM-free via the iTunes Music Store, but for a price; the unlocked audio files cost $1.29, $0.30 cents more than standard DRM-ed iTunes music. And this week, Amazon launched AmazonMP3, a music download service comprised entirely of DRM-free music tracks, nearly 2 million strong. These high bit rate DRM-free MP3 files from AmazonMP3 sell for either $0.89 or $0.99 per song, and can be played on any device that supports MP3 audio files: iPods, cell phones, PDAs, DVD players, Windows Mobile devices, digital audio and video players, etc. By taking DRM out of the equation, users can finally purchase digital content and use it however and wherever they’d like.

The HTC Kaiser has been the presumptive successor to the AT&T 8525 for months. Today we need presume no more, as AT&T Mobility has announced the Kaiser as the AT&T 8925 Tilt, so named because the unit features a flip-up, angled screen.

Here’s a little non-Windows Mobile news for ya! As predicted, Apple has announced a new family of iPods. The iPod Classic and new 3G iPod nano are available for order now and should ship in the coming days. The big story, however, is the iPod Touch, an iPhone-like device without the phone, the Touch features the Multi-Touch touchscreen interface, Wi-Fi, the Safari web browser, YouTube and more. The iPod Touch will ship in late September 2007.

Though we haven’t heard anything from AT&T Mobile on the subject, Amazon.com has posted images and product information on an upcoming Windows Mobile 6 smartphone bearing the AT&T logo, the Pantech C810 Duo. According to Amazon, the C810 will ship in 2-4 weeks. Details are a bit sketchy at this point, but we do know that the C810 is a non-touchscreen Windows Mobile 6 Standard handset with a dual-slider design, meaning it has both a QWERTY keyboard and dial-pad.

If you’re a Facebook user, OutSync allows you to quickly sync photos from Facebook to matching contacts in Microsoft Outlook. Once the photos are synced with Outlook, they’ll be transferred to your Windows Mobile device – all without ever having to copy-and-paste a thing. OutSync is a free download.

Meet the first-ever non-touchscreen smartphone from Palm, the Windows Mobile 6 Standard Treo 500. The new smartphone was announced for Europe’s wireless carrier Vodafone, and it’s unclear at this point whether the Treo 500 will come to the United States. Palm’s handhelds generally end up in the States sooner or later, so we’ll keep you posted.

Well, I got my hands on the new iPod touch this afternoon – I must say that my first impressions are very, very positive. A full review will be coming later in the week, but I wanted to share my first out-of-the-box impressions of this phone-less iPhone with everyone straight away. P.S. As expected, Verizon Wireless today announced the Motorola Q Music 9m (also known as the Q9m) the first of at least two Q successors to be released by wireless carriers this year.

HTC Europe has officially launched the TyTn II, a.k.a. the HTC Kaiser, a.k.a. (if you believe the reports) the AT&T Tilt. This new Windows Mobile 6 Professional (touchscreen) smartphone will likely drop in our American laps sometime in the next few weeks.

Almost one month ago, the first information began trickling out regarding a line of iPAQ Windows Mobile PDAs and Smartphones scheduled for release by HP sometime before the end of 2007. Today, we have more information regarding two members of this family of devices, the iPAQ 614c and 914c.

The fate of the Foleo so-called “Mobile Companion” was sealed in a letter released today from Palm, Inc. President and CEO Ed Colligan. Citing as the primary reason a need to focus the company’s “energies on delivering [the] next generation platform and the first smartphones that will bring this platform to market,” Mr. Colligan has canceled the current Foleo product, but not the project as a whole.

HP has seemed to be the sleeping giant of Windows Mobile devices, as it once ruled the market and in recent years has done little to maintain its position. Now, HP is readying two new iPAQ handhelds for release over the next two months, one touchscreen smartphone and one Classic PDA. The iPAQ 610c runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional and supports GSM/EDGE/HSDPA wireless networks. The iPAQ 210 is an Enterprise-class PDA with a VGA display and a fast 624MHz mobile processor.

Many users continue to be confused by the naming scheme announced by Microsoft for Windows Mobile 6 devices. Now that a few Windows Mobile 6 handhelds are available, we’ve put together a brief – a primer of sorts – to help illustrate the different types of Windows Mobile 6 devices and to highlight what you need to know about them.

Now that the term “Pocket PC” is no longer official, some minor adjustments to Pocket PC Central’s site layout will need to be made in the coming weeks; the site’s title will not change, however.

Many users think they’re doing something wrong or that their handheld is malfunctioning when an SDHC card fails to work with their Windows Mobile device. Fear not, dear friend; you are not the problem, nor is there anything wrong with your PDA or smartphone. SDHC cards are not compatible with any Windows Mobile devices currently sold in the United States, and, in fact, are compatible with relatively few non-Windows Mobile devices on the market as a whole.

This update addresses a problem with the Palm Treo 750 where sounds are lost for phone calls and notifications.

the wait for the Kaiser may soon be over, as the FCC has just approved the new handheld for sale in the United States. According to new Internet reports, the HTC Kaiser will be sold by AT&T as the 8925, but regardless of its name it’s now almost certain that the Kaiser will be coming to AT&T sometime in the next two months.
